The Longwood Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensembles will combine for a concert Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Jarman Auditorium.
Each of the groups will feature several student soloists and conductors in the concert, which is free and open to the public.
The 50-member Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. Gordon Ring, will perform Offenbach’s "La Belle Héléne" and "Dance Prelude" by Claude T. Smith. Student soloists include baritone Steven Brown (Gustav Mahler’s "Liebst du um Schönheit") and Cory Anderson, who will conduct "A Jubilant Overture" by Alfred Reed. Brown and Anderson won the student soloist and conductor competitions last fall.
Jazz Ensemble A, directed by Dr. Charles Kinzer, will perform the well-known jazz works "Four" by Miles Davis and "Greetings and Salutations" by Thad Jones. Soloists will include Tyler Gage on the trumpet and Roxanne Cook on vocals.
